What I learned about communication and friendships
I’ve discovered that messages of concern and a genuine questioning of a friend’s actions out of concern for their wellbeing are often not taken in contex by the recipient. Sometimes a friend will see such a message as concern, will see that this person was a good enough friend to confront them and make sure everything was ok in their life. Typically, however, the person will take it as an assault on them and either fight, or take the cowardly route of just avoiding all contact, not responding, and/or making a blog post about how that person was wrong to bring it up.
While I’ve recently experience the latter of these two scenarios, I’ve determined that, in order to be a true friend to someone, you have to ask the hard questions. You have to say what’s on your mind and you have to be honest with them. Even if you know it may hurt them in the short term.
It has also reinforced my belief that you get out of a relationship what you put in it. If you don’t communicate with the people you love, share the expereinces of your life with them and engage in their own lives, then you are not really friends at all, are you? If someone is not willing to put that work into a relationship, you need to re-evaluate that relationship and determine if you and that person need to remain friends. It doesn’t make either party a bad person, but it does need to be addressed openly and honestly. If that doesn’t happen, then it just leads to hurt feelings and grudges which are not healthy for anyone. Failure to communicate openly and honestly, even if it is to discuss a mutual end to a friendship, is really rooted in fear and is, quite frankly, cowardice. We have all had our fair share of this, I’m sure their have been times that I have been too afraid of conflict to say what needs to be said. This experince has shown me that you cannot be afraid to tell people what needs to be said, even if the reaction to it will not always be desirable.

iPad = Awesome!
Just got my new iPad yesterday and I am loving it! I am already getting more done in less time and having more fun doing it. Getting used to only running one application at a time is a little weird but I am slowly getting used to it. It is actually kind of nice because there are fewer distractions so you can really focus on the task you are on and get it done faster and better.
My only complaint so far is a lack of flash. So I can’t access adwords or google’s keyword tool yet. Maybe there is an app out there for it?

Why Do People Still Text and Drive?
I just read an awful story about a plastic surgeon in California that drove himself and his dog off of a cliff near the ocean because he was texting and driving. The doctor was declared dead at the scene and his dog was thrown clear, ending up in the ocean. The dog was pretty banged up, but will be ok.
It’s just so awful to hear these stories about people getting hurt or killed in traffic incidents that are completely unnecessary and avoidable. This is one of the reasons I am so passionate about Key2SafeDriving. If this doctor had installed this device, there would have been no temptation to text and he may have seen that he was veering off the road. It’s just really sad. Please, even if you don’t invest in something like Key2SafeDriving, please do not text and drive or use a hand held cell phone while driving. It’s just not worth the risk.
